Hi everyone,
Just bought a newly contructed vacation home and paid $300 for the installation of a fan kit. The contractor states the fireplace fan kit was installed and is thermostatially controlled. We do not believe the fan kit has been installed. We have never heard the fan go on, do not feel any heat blowing out, nor was there any paperwork on the fan left for us (everything else has manufacturer's booklet). We checked the manufacturer's site- HeatNGlo, and the installation manual refers to a switch to control the fan speed. We also called HeatNGlo, and the lady stated there must be a switch if the fan was installed. The question is: Where should this switch be? My brother in law has one that looks like a dimmer switch on the wall next to the fireplace, and when he turn it up you can really hear the fan. It's not possible it's underneath, inside the fireplace, is it? And the BIG question, if it's not installed, will this be a problem for them to install it. Thanks for any info you can offer. carib210

Carib210, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
If this is new construction, you have a one year warranty. Call the contractor and have him send out whoever says they installed the fan unit. Have them show you where all controls are and leave the paperwork. Good luck.

Carib210,
your FP may be similar to mine. I think your contractor meant "heat sensor" instead of a thermostat?
I have a fan on my FP and a heat sensor. When the fire reaches a certain temperature (usually after 15-20 minutes) the fan turns on.
The fan and the heat sensor is installed underneath the fire box. When you open the lower louvre, you can see the fan and it has a dial to adjust the speed. I agree, someone should have walked you thru this. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I'm scheduled to be there next week for them to take care of some repair work and the fireplace installer is due on Tuesday. I'll let you know how I made out. Thanks again.
