Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if this can be done.
Lazyboy said its do-able for $225.

I want to get a reclining loveseat for my basement but the width of the
doorway is only 28 inches so some say the reclining back can be taken
apart for any move from room to room.

Can I do this myself?
Is it a simple bolt removal and rebolting type of thing?

Thanx.

Some manufacturers make their recliners with removable backs
The most common methods are thumb screws and clips
In either case, the back fabric of the chair will lift up from the bottom, like a flap
It may be secured by Velcro
When the bottom third of fabric is lifted up, you'll see the metal parts of the framing
You'll want to find where the back frame meets the recliner mechanism tabs (a tab sticking up from the back of the seat on either side)

The thumbs screws will be easier to identify
Big, easily found and easily grabbed plastic handles
A quick "Arg ye maties" (well, they are thumb screws and that make me think pirates), twist a bit, and they come off

The clips will be harder to identify, as they tend to blend in with the metal of the frame and mech more
The clips are usually on the back frame, and must be lifted slightly, both at the same time, so the hole in the middle of the clip clears the peg on the mech tab, and the back is them pulled straight off

On non-removable backs, the mech tabs continue up and become the back frame, with no clips or screws, and often no fabric flap

As your loveseat is basically two recliners, you will probably have four attachment points (screws or clips)
