Hello Everyone: I had to take out the Pop Up Assembly >> that goes up and down to hold the water in the sink, In order to do that I had to disconnect it from a pipe directly under and on the pipe that leads down from the bottom of the sink. Now I want to get rid of this assembly and just use a rubber stop with a chain. What can I use to stop the water from coming out of the side of this pipe after taking off the assembly? Thanks, Tom

I have not seen a cap or plug for this purpose. You may have to change the sink drain tailpiece to the one that does not have the pop up stopper. Good luck.
P.S. If the nut that held the lever into the drain was not ruined when you removed the stopper, you could cut the rod shorter (to avoid hair and such from hanging up on it) and leave the rest of the pop up assembly in tact.

Ok, I guess thats what I will do then. I am suprised that there isn't a plug for that pipe, they have them for gas pipes, Thank You

Reason is that most people never remove the pop-up. You either want it or don't. So they make two different tailpieces for whichever you desire.

I see what you mean, Thanks. In that case since I have to get a new tail pipe and gasket, then I might as well get a new pop up stopper.

What do I have to do first, I mean what do I measure to make sure I am getting the correct size Pop Up Assembly for this sink? (Do I have to take the tail pipe with me (if so that means new gasket too right?) I will be going to Home Depot? Thanks

Measure and make sure what the shortest length you need is. Then buy one longer. You MAY have to cut it to fit with a hacksaw if you don't have a tubing cutter. It goes into a slip-joint so you have an extra 1" or so to play with. You may not have to cut it at all.

Yes. Measure the tailpiece. It should go into a compression nut at the bottom. Most of these have a flared type opening that is longer than needed and this will allow a little play in the measurement.

I got the new pop up assemble in, I had a hard time getting the old tail piece out , lucky I remembered seeing on tv that you have to make sure ALL the old rubber gasket is completely out from around the old tail piece before knocking it out using a block of wood and a hammer, so as not to damage the bottom of the sink!
Also, I did not have to cut the new tail piece because I am using a rubber trap instead of plastic or metal.
Thank you for your help
PS: I have a seperate new thread to start, until next time, regards, Tom
