I have begun planning my winter project for our home.
It is a split side house built in 1975, the living area and the lower half of the hallway are very dark paneling.
The house is very dark all by itself, and doesn’t need any help from the walls, so we had decided to remove the panel, and sheetrock. Then the other day in our local home center we stumbled across new wallpaper we had not seen before. I can’t remember the name, but the literature shows this wall covering being installed "over paneling"and then painted.
It is textured in all different styles, and the stucco look is quite appealing.
Anyway, we are seriously considering applying this to our paneling this as an alternative to sheetrock.
Has anyone here used this wall covering, and if so, how were the results?

I'm pretty sure I know the type you are talking about. I am not sure if it will completely span the grooves. Depending on the width/depth of the groove, it might dry down, and tighten up enough to show the grooves. I would suggest hanging 1-2 pieces, and let it dry overnight to see how it looks when done.
This paper does accept paint nicely, but I would advise to use an acrylic primer for the first coat. Also, let it dry at least 48 hours beofre priming/painting, so you don't run the risk of reactivating the paste.

If it doesn't cover the grooves, you will need to either fill the grooves with joint compound, or hang a liner paper first.

And please, prime the paneling with a high-quality pre-wallcovering primer before hanging.
