We have new house. Builder provided a switched circuit terminated in an elec. box outside the house. we have 3 lamp posts to install. each lamp post has 3 bulbs. to wire it up - do I just connect them in series? what gauge wire would I use? any other hints or tips?

In Parallel electrically, but depending on the layout, from the JB to one fixture, to the next, and so on. What size wire depends on the distance and ampacity of the circuit, although I'd say for under 150 ft, 12/2 UF-B is good.
