I have 4 posts on my front porch that need to be replaced. What do you use to support the roof while you take the posts down? Also, does anyone have plans that show how to do a post and decking replacement or know where I can get them?

First, I had some used 6X6's available and I had access to the porch roof trusses.

So I placed a 6X6 right on the decking and attached it directly to a truss with #12 screws. I then placed another one about 12' away.

I then screwed a 12' 2x10 to each 6X6 and pushed it against the trusses.

Repeat until satisfied.

Cut old posts out.

Install new.

Take out temp bracing & return materials.
