I am having problems with a deck light that remains on even when the light switch is in the off position.
On the light switch there is a red wire and a black wire connected. Coming from the outdoor socket is two white, two black and a red wire. The light fixture has only one white and one black wire.
I've tried several different combinations, but nothing works short of turning off the breaker.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did this just suddenly start happening? Or did you do something (like replace the fixture)?
Connect fixture black wire to electrica box red wire.
Connect fixture white wire to both electrical box white wires.
Connect the two black wires in the electrical box to each other, but not to the fixture.

This was a new fixture but an exact replica of the one being replaced.
Followed the wiring schematic you suggested but result was the same.
I'm not sure where to go next

98% of the time, what I gave you should have worked. So start by double-checking that you did what I said. Especially make sure that the two black wires in the box connect only to each other, and to nothing else.
If that still doesn't solve the problem, provide details of all the cables, wires and connections in the switch box.

In the switch box there are two white wires tied together and two black wires tied together and one red wire. The red wire is connected to the light switch as are the black wires.

Then my previous advice should have worked. I don't understand why it didn't.

Yes, a bad switch is a possibility. Or if the original poster did anything inside the switch box, it's possible that it might have gotten messed up there. We don't have a very good description of the project that he was doing or of what exactly he did.

John:
Thanks for your assistance. The switch was checked and operational. However upon further examination, after the possibility was raised I removed it and had it checked out. It had a fault within that would not have been readily noticed.
Again I appreciate your assistance in this matter.
