Hi,
I need to install a carpet on concrete. I have done it many times on wood floors but I'm a little leary about concrete.
I have the tack strips for concrete and will double the strips but I'm not confident they will hold. Should I rent a gun to fasten them to the floor? I had an installer do a couple basement rooms a week ago in another place and he was using a pole he hit into the floor to put the strips on. I was working on something else so I never talked to him about how he was doing it.
Also, what sort of a glue pattern should I use for the pad. Hopefully not the whole floor (my installer never used any glue).

well to put btack strip down you will need concrete tack strip..same as wood strip but it has concrete nails...now nailing into concrete is not easy to get it to hold...you may need to buy an extra bag of concrete nails to add to the strip...now for some reason the strip will not hold ...then you can sweep the floor extra good ,, use liquid nail...sweep the floor, lay a bead of liquid nail and lay the strip down..it will need a few hours to cure..then when its dry you can then try to drive the nails in...if i use liquid nail then i don;t use the nails at all.....i hope this helps....

I use a lot of PL Premium polyurethane glue. Think that would work.? I have used it to attach T moulding brackets to concrete and it was great.

I know when I framed a couple of basements, I had a heck of a time with concrete nails working so I don't have much faith in them. I wound up using a Hilti gun.

The nails for the concrete strip will work none out of ten times. You must hit them very squarely.

Thanks Daniel. My experience is that you are right. It works "none" out of ten times. I think you meant "nine". :D
I intend to give the nails a try first and glue if reqd.

Please forgive my typing skills. It is funny though, there are nine nails per strip.

Since I live in the land of concrete slabs I can say learning to nail tackstrip into concrete was a big learning curve. New construction seems to not be bad unless there is a lot of rock in the cement mix.

You have to hold your mouth just right. Some times it takes the pitter pat method. Some times it takes the light tap, and drive home method. Some times you only get one slam to get it to hold method.

Cutting the tackstrip into shorter lengths to keep them from warping so they will sit flat into the Liquid Nail, works when all else fails.

You can also hammer drill with a masonry bit, and use plastic wall anchors.

I got lucky. Used a 32 oz ball pein hammer and had maybe 1 misfire out 25 tack strips! Used the tap pow method.
Thanks

I have found using contact cement is very effective. Apply it to the stips and to the floor where your going to nail it to. Let both of them dry fully. Put them in place and hit the nails square. No problem.

Been doing this for 21 years.

Would gorilla glue work as well as liquid nails?
