I installed 3 150 Halagon outside lights on my garage. I feed this with 12-2 wg from the basement circuit breaker 20 amp. I also installed a sub panel with 15 amp breakers. Now I am popping breakers any solutions. I was told the lights will only draw 5 amps and the garage door opener never caused any problems. The lights and opener never work at same time. Any suggestions other than running bigger wire to the garage. Impractical.

not enough info.
The breaker pop instantly? Could be faulty wiring. Tell us all the changes you made.
The breakers pop after running for while? What else is running on same circuit?
Which breakers pop? More than one? 15amp? 20 amp?

20 amp in main box in cellar fed with 12-2 w/g to garage approx 50 feet
new aux panel in garage with 6 circuits
20 amp breaker for garage door opener w/light 60 watt bulb
15 amp breaker with 2-60 watt bulbs not on when door opener or outside lights are on
15 amp breaker with 1 150 watt halagon motion sensor light on it
15 amp breaker with 2-150 watt halagon motion sensor light on it
only one of the above is active at the same time except the halagon circuits but they are staggered in ther operation one lights then the other
all wiring in garage is 12-2 w/ground and is new wire with wire nuts and then taped
The lights seem to blow the breakers after they are on a while leading me to belive the run is too long from garage to main panel box however lately the main did not blow just the 15 watt breakers for the halagon lights. The door opener has never caused it to blow the 20 amp breaker just the lights on the 15 amp circuit
I may try and change to 100 watt halagon light bulbs
If there is anything I have not answered please ask and I will try to get the information. This is crazy.

It does sound like you are overloading the circuit. 50 feet is not too long for a circuit.
How many watts of lights?
20 amp = 2400 watts
15 amp - 1800 watts

My lights fall in those guidelines.
two 150 watts(300) on one 15 amp breaker
1 150 watt on other breaker.
I may have found a loose connection last evening. I think they are working now.
One of the wire nuts backed a wire backwards and may have been shorting. I will have to wait several days to be sure.
Thank you for your help. It helped whan I split the 3 lights onto 2 circuits.
Wasn't sure about the distance Thanks :)
