I have brick siding on the front half of my home (3 yrs old) that wraps about 2 ft. around the edges. At the main entrance the brick enters into a vinyl overhang/attic which extends approx. two ft. from the main house. When I was in the attic to check on insulation I noticed I can look down around the edges of this section (no insulation on top and it almost looks like a 2x5 soffit) and actually see the brick work and the outside. There is a gap on either side of the brick. I also noticed that where the brick meets the vinyl on the sides there is spacing between them. Is this designed to let moister out or maybe incomplete masonry work?

Your brick is a veneer that is not intended to be tight against the sheating. There should be an air space.

The brick does not move, but there must be a space to let the vinyl expand and contract with temperature. I assume in the exposed areas the is a vinyl j channel for the siding to fit into.
