I have coach lights on either side of my two-car garage (both on the same switch) and I want to add a motion/dusk to dawn sensor on the circuit. I'm looking at the RAB SMS180HL good nightlight - I like the hi/lo feature that keeps the lights at 20% for some constant illumination and then brightens to 100% when motion is detected.
The sensor fits 1/2" threads, so can I just penetrate the brick with 1/2" conduit and attach the sensor to the conduit and have the junction box in the garage attic? I would rather not chisel out the brick to mount the box flush to the exterior if I don't have to.
My other question, these sensors are supposed to be mounted below the lights but that doesn't work in my application. Is it OK to mount the sensor in the center of the garage about 2-3' above the lights which are mounted on either side of the garage about 10' to the left/right? Or will this cause a bunch of problems with false activation etc...?
Any advice is appreciated.
