Hello all -

Two weeks ago my newly finished basement flooded. I only got about an inch of water, but I had a DRIcore subfloor underneath a carpet & it never dried out, even after having professionals in. I had to rip out the whole carpet and subfloor, and now I'm ready to start again. After this flood, I am in the process of taking measures to avoid this happening again - things I probably should have done before finishing the basement - so I know the chances of flooding again will be much less than before but obviously not zero. My question then is what to put down on the floor. I have small kids, so I would prefer a carpet over tile. Given that I will have doubts about flooding for a while, the DRIcore is out - that stuff can really only be used in a basement guaranteed not to flood (if such a thing exists). I've just begun investigating it, but several people I know have carpet in their basements with some sort of rubber or waterprood felt underneath the carpet and padding. At least if the basement floods, the whole thing won't have to be ripped out. Also, should I seal the floor? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as we're now looking at bare concrete & looking to get things back to normal as soon as possible!

I would score and then acid stain the concrete.

And then find some carpet remnants and have them cut down and edge binding applied, to use as area rugs.

Just wanted to add the right address for the Acid Stain Forums acid-stain.com (http://www.acid-stain.com) and another good stain manufacturer is Decosup decosup.com (http://www.decosup.com)
