I am sizing my room to order sheetrock and came across something I didnt expect. Because of my cathedral ceiling, my walls arent 8 feet. They are 8'3".

So, my two walls that are adjecent to my sloped ceiling are 8'4" and the opposit walls are 16'3".

I know that sheetrock can be bought in 54" widths. So, Im considering doing my bottom course in this, and just trimming a few inches.

The alternative, obviously is going with 48" width and then a thin piece at the bottom. The piece at the bottom will be covered with either base molding or baseboard heat anyway. But, it should still be taped and hit with spackle so I figure why go through the effort of cutting and screwing these little pieces plus wasting any time with taping them.

Would you guys do the same thing, or is there another option?

Put the 3 inch rip at the bottom. If your baseboard is 3" or bigger it will cover and you don't have to tape it.

You could also buy 12' rock, trim it to 8'3" and hang it vertically, but that makes for a more difficult taping/finishing job.
