i live on a high watertable and during long excessive periods of rain, i get small amounts of water in my basement, (except for this past week when it rained for 7 days straight & i received 5" of water and had the pumps on non-stop for 3 days). water usually builds up in 2 differrent corners, but now i have seen it coming up from the center as well, especially around the lolly columns. i am now going to get a drain tile system installed around the inside perimeter.

1) would it hurt to put down a leveling compound as to help as some extra protection?

2) is the leaking that has been going on very bad for the foundation? (i have only lived in the house a year & i have all water running away from the house).

The water can be bad for any wood because it can promote the growth of mildew unless there is excellent ventilation. The water can also cause problems with masonry as the moisture moves through the wall, creating a show of efflorescence on the exterior. This can serve to weaken the joints in the wall over time.

Outside of the wetnes, the major problem with water around your foundation is the added pressure on the walls. Not so bad with sand, but worse with clay type soils.

The efflorescence is more of a cosmetic problem.
