I have looked through a lot of older posts and can`t find anything that deals with this subject.
My house was built in 1947.I have exposed a stone wall in the house [the mortor was unfinished on this side]and have chiseled out the old mortor till it is solid and chisled off any large pieces of concrete and mortor on the stone. Before repointing it I need to clean off the old Concrete, mortor and paint [it looks like these stones were used before and recycled into this house].
I don`t want to use acid as there is a very nice porcelain tile floor in this room and I am afraid of ruining the tile and grout.
The room is pretty much stripped at this point and a friend suggested a sand blaster. I have never used one before and don`t know what it`s capable of. Would it remove the old concrete, mortor and paint?? If so what size and type grit would I use? Or if any one knows of another way to get this job done.I am assuming a small sand blaster would do the trick.
The wall is 8` high and 18 ` wide. The stone is not real fancy, I think it is just Pennsylvania field stone.
Once I get it cleaned up and repointed I plan to put a stone enhancer on it and I think it will be a great addition to the rec room.
Any input on this subject would be appriciated.
