I moved into a newly-built house a few months ago. There is a Napoleon gas fireplace with direct vent but it doesn't have a fan. Then when I asked the builder, they said the fireplace doesn't come with a fan unless we pay extra $300 for it. I think this is an oversight my my part as I thought every fireplace has a fan. The one in my previous 2 houses did have a fan. Anyway, do I need a fan for my fireplace... pros and cons? Is $300 about right for a fireplace fan (including installation)?
Thanks.

Aladinl,
I didn't have a blower on my FP at my last house, but I'm glad I had one installed this time. It defintely helps circulate the warm air. I just checked my paperwork. I paid $260 for a blower (installed) in Jan '04. So, the price doesn't sound off the mark for a builder.

You may check one of your local fireplace shops before paying the builder. They may be able to give you some direction. From the looks of it, the fan itself is not difficult to install. The problem may be having an electrical outlet plug into? Mine has an outlet underneath the firebox with the blower.
Good luck.

Thanks Jasper. I think I'll go for it.
