I'm switching to biodiesel. Can my gas furnace be converted to oil without replacing the entire unit? I've read this can be done going from oil to gas, but can't find info on going the other way. If a new furnace is necessary, what are some resources that might be available locally for a used oil furnace? I thought of contacting installation companies. I imagine they must remove the old furnace when someone else converts from oil to gas. Pros? Cons? Suggestions? Thanks.

Few gas furnaces can be converted to oil. If yours has ribbon or inshot burners, it cannot be converted. If it has a gas gun type burner, probably. Post the make & model maybe one of us can tell you. You are going to be hard pressed to find a used oil fired furnace. No contractor is likely to sell or even give you something they have taken out.
