How do I determine what size pipe I would need for 30,000 BTU gas logs. They will not be the main source of heat, only supplemental when needed.
Also need to know what is acceptable in terms of pipe material. There will be no outside run; the gas line will come from the basement and will be about 20 feet long.
Is black pipe a must or is copper okay to use?

Some areas allow copper some don't. It all depends on what they use as a tracer in the gas, some will corrode the inside of the copper.
You really nead to go with a gas pipe chart and your building department may supply you with one but something that small probably 1" till you get to the point where you turn up then a 1/2" would be fine. Don't forget a drip leg.
I hope this is not a vent free is it ?? They are illegal in several states and I don't care what the manufacture says they are unsafe.
