During recent heavy rains I got oil in my sump pump. I contacted my oil company who directed me to have my underground tank checked for leaks. I did so and my worst nightmare came true...a leak which has effected the soil.My question is: does anyone know if there is state funding for the remedation of the soil and removal of the tank. I live in New York...I do not have tank insurance with my oil company and have heard this process can cost tens of thousands of dollars which I do not have. I am terrified and would appreciate any info or guidence.
thank you

I honestly don't know, but maybe KField or Grady may be able to help with this.. Have you asked your oil company if they can give you info who to contact, or State/EPA??

Some states (N.Y.?) have a fund thru the L.U.S.T. (Leaking Underground Storage Tank) program specificly for such things. Check with your oil company first then the local, county, or state environmental protection people.
Hope you have had that tank pumped out. If you have not, please do so ASAP.
If a certified testing company did the testing, they may have already notified the environmental people. This may or may not be how things are done in N.Y. I suggest you contact the testing company for any paper work you may need & to find out if they have already filed any required notification.
