I am planning to replace wood panelling on one wall of my family room with drywall. Since this is an exterior wall, I am also planning to remove the old insulation (40 years old and not up to code) and install new insulation. My question is whether the new insulation should be installed with the facing (vapor retarder) in or out. I think the answer probably is "out" and if so, I am also wondering how to attach the insulation to the studs since I won't be able to staple the facing paper to the exterior edge of the studs? Thanks.

Ken2839, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
This is not my area of expertise but I have installed more than my share of insulation. The vapor barrier goes to the heated side (inside). This applies no matter where you are installing it (walls, floor, ceiling etc). Good luck with your project.
