My microwave is too high for me and my children and would like to lower it. I have spoken w/2 masonaries (sp) about moving my high microwave that is in my brick wall and lowering it and cutting a lower space for my new ovens. Both have told me that I will have a problem w/mortar looking like a patch job. This is not a whole wall of brick...it is just a built in area kind of like a cabinet next to counters that houses my microwave and oven. Can I use grout paint to paint the mortar lines after the patch to match and make it appear uniformed? If not, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of how to do this to make it look uniformed? Thanks so much for your time and expertise!

Welcome to the forums

I suppose you could use grout paint [actually any latex stain/paint should work] but it sure sounds like a tedious job :)

What color is the mortar? I have colored mortar for repair work w/liquid concrete color and achieved a 98-99% color match to the existing.

The mortar is concrete color. Do you sell this product and if so how much? Thanks! :)

I didn't say "concrete in color" it is liquid concrete coloring. There are a number of different products out there but Lowes sells Quickrete liquid color. I have matched a very light gray using black as the tint. You need to mix some test mortar and try varying amounts until you have the right proportion, which is droplets for a light gray. Remember, even though you buy a whole bottle (probably $10) you must use ONLY droplets at a time. It is much more effective than you would think.

Remember test and note your mixture before you do the actual, there's no reversing it.

Good luck!
