changing old honeywell circle tstat with new digital one...only 2 wires coming from old tstat..both white..one is copper one is silver...followed them to the basement and the silver wire connects to another wire and the copper wire has a jumper connecting it to the same wire...so which goes to R and W on the new tstat?..or does it matter...ty

Did you make note on what wire went to R and W on the old t-stat?
Not knowing the model of t-stat, it will almost matter what wire go where..
The R wire should be coming from the transfromer or R on the furance.. And W wire should go to a gas valve or W.

The t-stat is just a fancy switch. Put the copper on the "R" and the silver on "W". It should work fine.
