Moved into a new house a couple months ago. We have an existing wood burner connected to a standard brick chimney. The house is approx. 18 years old.

When it rains, we've been getting a musty, burnt wood smell from the chimney. There is a small cricket on the chimney but i've noticed it is a bit smaller than my neighbors. I'm guessing water is getting into the chimney when it rains, producing the smell.

I'm going to have the chimney cleaned. is there anything else I can do to get rid of this smell? Is this normal for a wood burner?

Thanks!!
Scott
