Residential & Commercial Security - Locks, Keys & Dead Bolts - Looking for a latch for a mortise lock

I have two of these locks and the latch is lost (I guess it "fell" into the opposing side when it came loose?)

Any idea where I can find a replacement? Visited five local locksmiths and no one knows. The entire mortise is available as a replacement for $200.

Hi Miamicuse,

And welcome to the board. (We're practically neighbors). The type of lock you have is an Omnia, and as you now know, they are expensive. I'm afraid I have some bad news though. Omnia controls their parts. The only thing I can suggest is to bight the bullet, and buy a new one. And I'm sorry to say, the replacement may not be instock. It may take a couple weeks to get in, as Omnia doesn't assemble them until one is ordered. It's not the news you wanted, but it's what I feel you should know. Good luck, keep us in mind though as another Moderator may have a solution.

Thank you neighbor. I will do a search on Omnia locks and see if I find it.

I did take the mortise apart and must say I am not impressed with it's quality. I think I can get better quality locks at comparable prices. One alternative is to replace the entire lock set, since the handles are getting scratched and tarnished over the years.

Are there other atrium locks that can be used for this cut out? This is a view of the door with the lock removed.

It is a pretty narrow rail.

I don't think those wrap around retro kit will work, because the metal door has a slightly raised "lip" at the end of the rail.

Replacement parts are not available, and MiamiCuse is correct about the quality as well. These are actually retrofit locks for a company in Miami that went out of business about 15 years ago. (The Omnia is the only lock that will fit) These locks were in really narrow backset aluminum framed doors. It's really because of their short backset that they cost so much.

Morning MC,

It looks like it will fit. But if you read the page, it is a discontinued lock. If you can get it, I say buy 2, install one, and keep the other. If you have the same type of lock as first discussed in your original post, it could fail at any time. Then the process starts all over. As far as the Omnia lock and the handles available, Omnia is great for mixing hardware. you can put almost any handle with any lock. But, also keep in mind, if you want a special order, it will take weeks to get. (it's that assembly thing I mentioned previously). But the Pado should work. May be they do not show this old one on their web pages? If I need to order a replacement, any idea if they take direct orders? or do I need to go through a special dealer? I do not see a dealer listing on their page.

"I reviewed the pictures you sent with customer service and this is not our lockset. The cut out is completely different to what our locksets would have. I'm sorry we couldn't be of further assistance."

Now the hunt continues, or is it possible their technical department may not be aware of some of the obscured models that they carry?

I read some of the conversation. I took a look at the picture of the lock in the door. It almost looks like a european type mortise lock with a "Profile" cylinder, for storm / patio doors. Also looks upside down :S UHP makes a replacement if thats what it is. They are out of N.J. I took a screenshot of my desktop..since I alread had the page up. Wanted to add, they run about 100 bucks or so.

Also if I remember right. Some Pella Doors came with thier own lockset. If I has to guess i'd say thats what it is.

I have searched and searched and no luck, I have no idea what type of lock this is, looks like I may have to buy new "similar" locks and retro fit the doors.

For a door with such thin rails, I would think installing a 4" push plate will make it look real ugly, any opinion?

I've thought about this, and you are correct. This is not an Omnia lock. It is however, one that is not available, as the manufacturer is now out of business. We, my partner and I replace them with Omnia locks, as they are the only ones that can be fit into the door. And they do take alot of work reboring, cutting, and filing to get in.. Sorry for the misinformation.
