We live in a 1500 sq ft colonial built in 1933. The exterior of the house is stone. The basement is cement block. The walls are made with lathe/plaster and covered with Spanish plaster.

The house leaks like a sieve, which is not a good thing during long WI winters.

We are working on making the house as energy efficient as possible (who isn't these days). I am in the process of learning how to remove the pulleys/weights from the windows and replacing with insulation and a plastic seal.

But what about the walls? I've heard mixed messages about insulating interior walls on old houses. Clearly this is something I cannot do myself but before I throw away a couple of thousand dollars I wanted some professional opinions about whether this is really necessary or just a gimmick thought up by someone to make money.

Thanks in advance for your opinion.
