Do I need a scratch coat when I stucco a 4' high, free standing cinder block wall? Or can I just apply a color coat? I live in So. Calif. so freezing temperatures are not a concern.
Thanks

Just spoke with a mason today that does stucco.
I'm doing the same the same thing and he told me to do 1/4" scratch/brown coat, let it dry for a couple of days and then do the color coat about 1/4" as well.
His reasoning was that doing it this way would prevent your being able to see the block joints when the wall got wet.
He's been doing this stuff for 20 years so I think he might know what he's talking about.
