I am trying to remove ceramic tiles in a hall ( 3 x 15) that have been cemented down for about a year.. I can break up the tile but cant get all the mastic ( ?) up, and the floor smooth. What can I put down over this mess to get it smooth for a tongue and groove wood floor. It also is about 1 inch lower than the entrance area which has the same ceramic tile on it. I would like to continue and just just go over the entrance tile with the new wood floor if that is possible.Or do I have to remove those tiles too? I have intermediate ability.
I appreciate your help. Great site.

Just tackled that this morning. I had to use a chisel and hammer to get the ceramic tiles off and level out the chunks under it. I ended up with some big holes that I patched with spackling paste. Good luck! After the floor prep the rest of the job should be easy...I hope
