I have an old queen size sofa bed and want to replace the mattress in it. Instead of having a professional replace it, I would like to buy the mattress myself and do it on my own. Is there any place I could look up or learn how to do this? It is easy enough to buy a mattress from a mattress store and replace it easily?

Also, I would like to replace the cushions and if anyone knows where I could buy ready-made cushions to replace the current 2 cushions, that would be great!

Thanks in advance.

If your sofa bed has a relatively standard Leggett & Platt style mechanism, it is very easily replaced
On these type of sofa beds, the couch part has a wooden frame, and the part that folds out is a metal mechanism
The mattress is usually snapped or tied in

With the mechanism folded out in the bed position, you'll want to measure the thickness of the mattress, and the width and length
If they are standard sizes, you can get a replacement mattress at your local mattress store

Most sofa beds these days are standard sizes, but there are some manufacturers that didn't use standard sizes over the years
It's best to check

A standard Queen sofa-bed mattress would be aprox. 58" X 72"

So if I can find the right mattress, you think its easy enough to disassemble the old mattress and put in the new one, right? Do you know if I need any special tools for doing this?

Thanks for your reply!

If it's the standard type, then it's easy as pie
No tools are needed

A full (52" w x 72" l) or queen (58" w x 72" l) 3" - 5" thick sofa bed mattress should just sort of lay in the mechanism "bed"
It may be tied, or snapped in
But the whole mattress should easily come out
And the new one easily put in it's place

If you have something other than the standard mechanism, some unusual design by the manufacturers, then I'll need a better description

Open it up!
See what's in there!
