I am installing laminate flooring with an underlayment attached. I am starting in a room with plywood subfloor and going into a kitchen with vinyl flooring. My question is do I need to remove the vinyl? If not Can I install with additional foam underlyment in the room without the vinyl to bring the level surface together? Does too much foam underlyment cause problems? Nothing is mentioned in the directions about additional underlyment :wall:

If the only diff in hieght is the vinyl, why not see if you can pull up the vinyl off the subfloor? In most cases it will only be "perimeter glued" and shouldn't be too impossible.
Too much padding together would make me nervous about extra flexing, which seems to be bad for laminate.

The only problem I see is if the vinyl is installed over an additional underlayment , that adds height beyond the manufacturers flatness specs of 1/8" in 6'
