My dryer is 2-3 years old.
This is the first time I have had trouble with it.

It started out by squeeking.I kept using it and now it has this awful crunching metal sound as well, when it turns.

I do want to fix this myself but cant get the thing apart.

I have unscrewed the control panel top.,and the screws on the back of the machine.

There are two more screws I cant reach under the control panel.
I cant figure this out.

All I want to do is take the thing apart so I can se whats going on.

HELP!

You must first take the front off to get at the problem. Open the dryer door & take the screws out from the top above the door lip. You can now lift the top of the dryer up. On the top inside of the dryer you will see a screw on each side. Remove these & lift up on the front dryer panel to remove & set to the right side of the dryer. My guess would be one of 3 things making that type of metal to metal noise. The most common is the rear drum bearing sleeve. To get to this you must get to the back bottom panel of the dryer & remove the belt. Do a drawing of how the belt is routed around the tensioner & motor as it can be a little confusing putting it back on if you never did it before. Once the belt is off you can pull the whole drum out from the front of the dryer to see if the plastic bearing is shot. If so, replace. Sometimes if let go for too long the metal post on the back of the drum & the insert on the back of dryer need replaced too. Check for excessive wear. If that seems ok, check the tensioner that keeps the belt tight. Should turn very easily. The third thing to check is the plastic glides that the front of the drum rides on. They are located on the front dryer panel that you removed. They are located on the top of the panel & there are anywhere from 3 to 5 of them.
If worn too bad it would have the plastic worn where the glides mount on to.
Should have started with this first but, PULL the PLUG before you do anything. Safety first. Hope this helps. Dave
