We have a wood burning fireplace that was converted to gas before we bought the house. With gas prices going up, up, up, up, up...can we switch back to wood burning and does anyone know what we need to do in order to do that? Is it as simple as disconnecting the gas line, removing the gas logs and then are we good to go? Thanks for your help.

Have a chimney sweep look at what you have and determine if the initial conversion did not do anything to compromise the safety.

We had a gas fireplace in our condo and I never used the gas logs. I did not like them as much as I like real wood or Duraflame type firelogs. I used the gas to light the logs and that was it (saves money on kindling too!). I would agree to go ahead and have the fireplace looked at. Maybe do this when you have it cleaned and save money that way. Other than that I see no reason why you cannot just take the gas logs out and use real ones...just make sure you turn off the gas when the real logs light!

one4arun,
What you need to do is make sure that whoever you call is qualified and more importantly insured.
When the fireplace was converted there may have been modifications made that would make changes necessary to be able to burn wood again.
A chimney liner is one thing that gas may need but a wood burner doesn't.
It's important you call the right person as your house insurance could be at risk if a mistake were made.
