Hello,
I am currently searching for a cheap alternative to an enviro crib for my hobby of breeding spiders. I have an old box freezer, that would be perfect if the thermostat could be set to around 68f (20c). I am in Oz, so it is 240v.
Is this possible?
thanks

Forgot to mention they are asking $1950 for the crib i want. So to replace the thermostat or have it modified would still be (hopefully) cheaper.

Warburton,

Freezers are manufactured to operate in a range around 0 degF or -18 degC.
When used at a temperature higher than this, a lot of stress will be placed on the compressor.
Also, I'm not sure if this would matter but there will be a lot of moisture being collected on the inside wall surface, leaving the whole inside wet and damp.

Hey Greg, thanks for the reply.
By "stress" do you mean it would run longer and harder with a raised temp?...I had presumed it would be the opposite..?
Could an air-con thermostat be fitted?...And would a compressor from a fridge be more suited?
Do you think it is a practical solution, or not?
The moisture is no problem, as it will mostly be used for keeping solutions at the right temp.
thanks again.
