I have just found this forum - I hope someone can help me.

We have just had French doors installed to make our front room an office. The doors are still natural wood at this time. The previous owners painted the office molding, chair rail and baseboards a creamy coffee color, while the walls are a darker color. However, the remainder of the house, including the foyer on the other side of the French doors, has all white trim and doors. We do like the different paint color in the office, so a change in the near future is not likely.

Do I paint the doors all the same color (white) - or do I paint the office side to match the moulding, rails and baseboards on the office side? If I do paint the office side to match the office, how far do I paint? Into the frame of doorway? Or just the surfaces that face the office?

Thank you!

here's the reason i like for all the woodwork in the home to be the same. you avoid these confusing situations! however....

i would paint them so that when they're closed, the doors & all mouldings are all white on the foyer side and everything is all coffee color on the office side. i'd paint the inside of the frame coffee. that way, if the doors are standing open, which they may be often, and you're seeing the inside coffee side of the doors, the inside of the frame will also be coffee.

so ONLY the very outside of the doors and the outer door mouldings will be white. the inside of the doors, the inside of the frame and the "edges" of the doors will be coffee.
