Hello Everyone,
I am in the process of building a two tier deck that is 20 inches off the ground with a 6 inch step down to another deck. Where my problem lies is that I had a contractor pour the footings for me and the second tier footings are about 3 inches too high. Can I notch the beams (two 2x8's sistered together) so I can get them level? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If you notch 3" out of a 2X8 you have effectively created a 2X4. That's not a beam!!
Choices are to increase the height of the affected deck or remove the footings and get them done right.
