I bought a home and removed some flooring to find a nice oak wood floor underneath. I noticed that there is one bad spot about 3 square feet that has been stained by water. After sanding the flooring, the area is still darkened with the stain. Is there any method of bleaching or removing the stain other than replacing?

You've got the right idea - bleach. You may be able to bleach it out using ordinary household (laundry) blrach. If not, most home centers and paint stores carry a bleach made specifically for wood - it's stronger.
Be sure to belach the entire floor - not just the stained area to maintain a uniform color...
