Hi,
I've hired a designer for a deck that contains a recessed (sunken) hot tub, but nobody seems to know how to provide the required access on all four sides. Does anyone have plans for such a deck or know how they are constructed without blocking access?
Thanks,
Tim

timseims, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
I am not an expert in the hot tub Forum but I have to ask. If you hired a designer, why isn't he providing this info. I would think that this is his job. Watch your post for the expert answers. Good luck with your project.

Are you required to have access on all four sides? Our hot tub only needs access on one side for maintenance/repairs, and our local code makes no mention of it, so I just built an access panel on one side.

I've never seen a tub that has more than one access panel. Everything you need to get to is inside that panel.
Every deck I have ever done around a tub has a removable section of decking to allow the owner to get into that panel. I've gotten pretty creative at times to make the access large enough to be usable and still have the support for the deck boards be adequate. That usually involves a couple sections of 2X6 that rests in LU26 hangers but can be slid out of the hangers.
