:alarm: I am redesigning my lawnmower (riding) into a gokart, I am taking the engine out of the front extending to rails, 6-8inches longer. And puting the engine in the back. Its a vertical shaft in the engine. I know ill have to tweak the belts, but could i take off the belts and but in chains, or do i need a differental (sp?) or a torque converter, the engine is a 14.5 hp, briggs and strattion.

please help :alarm:

If you are making a dragster a longer wheelbase is good. If you plan on doing a lot of turning a longer wheelbase is generally not so good, so consider how much you want to lengthen the frame.

What is your reason for moving the engine to the rear?

With the vertical shaft engine I would stay with the transmission and rear end that is already in the tractor. This will answer your differential and torque converter question. It is not great if you are building a real racer, but your big problem is converting the vertical power of the engine to horizontal power at your rear axel.
