I had a home inspector to tell me that I would need to put plastic under my existing deck to keep it from holding water and eroding. Is this true? If so, how do I go about doing this?

Some decks needs plastic under them, others don't. Since the inspector recomended it I would follow his advice. It is pretty simple to do. Just spread the plastic out and weigh it down with gravel,rocks or even dirt. If you have enough room to work under the deck try to give it enough grade where the water will easily flow away from the house and out from under the deck.
