I have the rods, with finals. The drapes are 84". The top of the window opening is 80". Should the drapes be 1/2" from the floor? If so, the rod will be 4 1/2" above the opening. How strong are you on the 3"? The seat has never been used as a seat in that it is too small and in a corner of the room which is not easily accessible. The drapes we removed were mounted inside of the opening and stopped at the seat. Are we right in our efforts to make them full length to the floor? Should I send a picture?

3" is a guideline. 4 1/2" is fine. yes, you want them about 1/2" off the floor so they hang unobstructed. i prefer floor length to anything shorter, but each situation is different. if they hung the curtains IN the alcove, they had to be just the length of the seat. if you're hanging them on the wall outside the alcove, yours will be nice floor length. theirs were a little more casual, yours will be more formal. either way is okay.

everything looks great except the way the rods meet, or rather DON'T meet, in the corner. you're going to be left with an awkward gap there that looks like your curtains and/or rods weren't wide enough to cover the whole window. i would've eliminated the 2 finials in that corner and mounted the rods so they just touched, so they looked like one continuous L shaped rod.
