Hi everyone! I have a old mirror that seems to have a dark finish, but I think it just may be extremely dirty. My mom won it at an auction at least 15 years ago. It has lived in the basement the past 10 years, and hung in a smoker's house for a while before that, not to mention who knows what before we got it!

I would love to hang this mirror in my new house, which has medium oak wood all throughout.

How can I clean it to see what's really underneath? Does Murphy's Oil Soap really work? Any suggestions?

Murphy's does work.

The only other thing I use to clean furnitrue is VM&P Naphtha, available at better paint stores. This, however, is highly flammable, so use appropriate caution.

Neither product will harm a finish.
