I cleaned my carpet 2 weeks ago and when the carpert dried their were brown stains on the floor- the carpet is in the basement which is very damp most of the time, did this contribute to the brown stains. I would like to get rid of these stains, please anyone!!!!!

Sounds to me like you got the carpet too wet in the cleaning process. We call this cellulose browning. Because the carpet was so wet, it released agents in the carpet that when it dried turned brown.

The only way around this is to use a cleaning method that doesn't use a lot of water. If you can find a professional in your area that uses the bonnet cleaning method, this should help remove the browning and not leave your carpets wet when done. I would also ask them to use carpet drying fans to help it dry faster.

A dehumidifier in your basement should help to keep the humidity level correct and help eliminate other dampness related problems.
