I am making a hearth for my new wood stove in my basement. I have a cement floor with 6mm vapour then laminate, everything is fine. What I need to know is do I cut the laminate out where the hearth is going then reseal the vapour barrier and leave a gap between the hearth and the laminate or can I simply just put the hearth on top of the laminate. I am making my hearth out of ceramic out of ceramic. Thanks for your help. :thinker:

The hearth can't sit in the laminate floating floor.
And don't say you were thinking of thinset mortar over the laminate! :wall:
Movement is the killer for ceramic, and the moisture in the mortar is the killer for laminate.
