If you want to install the carpet as a "runner", I can help. If you want to install as "wall to wall", this is best left to the pros. It takes lots of cuts and staples to make it look good, never mind the specialty tools required.

I know this is a "do-it-yourself" website but i feel compelled to say, yet again...WHY!? its a minimum labor fee! let a pro do it.
The stairs are the MOST important to get right and hardest to do.
If you must , and if it is just a runner....you can staple it or tackless it. Tackless must be applied carefully and exactly as to not show but it is the best. You start at the bottom and work up and over the nose. you MUST have a knee kicker and a stair tool and a mallet. But keep in mind, there are two basic ways to install stairs and padding is applied differently in both cases. Its important you know that for wear and to determine wether or not you will see the pad from the side if you have open end stairs and use the waterfall method....Im amazed at how many people want to install their own carpet. Its not just a question of laying it flat, but properly. I lf you dont do it properly and you want to save $75-$100....you will mo rethan likely lose that money since your carpet will wear out prematurely. Why do that??
