What is the best carpet to have if you have pets? When we bought our house it came with cheap shag carpeting that snags and unravels easily when our dogs run and play. It also hold hair in too well and is hard to clean. Suggestions welcome!

Shag carpeting??? Must be really old, they stopped manufacturing shag about 15+ years ago.

Best carpet to have with pets is a very tightly twisted nylon carpet. The higher quality carpet you purchase, the greater the number of individual fibers per twist and the greater the density of the carpet. This way, the pet hair is less likely to become embedded in the carpet and should vacuum up quite easily.

Another favour you can do your carpets is to brush your dog on a regular basis. Better to have the dog hair in a brush than in your carpet.

Further to my last posting, if you go to the main page of this site, I'm sure you'll be able to find the Carpet category. I looked at it a few days ago and there's s ton of information there.

There is a carpet called "Petagree" which is supposed to good for pet owners. There aren't any dealers near me and I don't know what styles/colors it comes in. I did find the web page but putting "+pets +carpet" into the search engine.
