Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I tried a few craftsman chat rooms in yahoo but that lead to nowhere. Ok, basically I'm an experienced furniture carpenter loking to expand my repetoire. Is anyone familiar with the process of guilding? I think thats what its called. It's when you carve a pattern or design into a surface of wood and melt a dedcorative metal into to the grooves to accent it. I'm pretty sure anyway. Does anyone know exactly how its done or what kind of metal to use? I've searched around a bit but cant seem to find much. Look forward to hearing and sharing tips about any form of carpentry with anyone, so even if you don't have an exact answer, I'd be happy to hear from other craftsmen who share my passion for woodworking. Thanks alot

As you know, gilding is a process of layering thin sheets of metal (usually gold) over wood. This process is most commonly used on picture frames.

The link below should provide you with more information as to materials, processes and helpful hints.
