I came home from work today to find it hot in my house! The house was built in 1998 with CHA. The temp has been set at 78 degrees for the past weeks and has not been touched.
There is an insulated pipe that goes to the AC unit outside that is frozen! It has white ice around it. I turned off the AC.
Any ideas what caused this??

Typically one of two problems No 1 low airflow across the evaporator coil which could be due to a dirty filter or coil or duct restriction (couch shoved against return grille or the kids shut off all the supply dampers at the diffusers etc) No 2 a internal refrigerant problem (low charge level)

Thanks for the reply. I changed the filter last night. It was a little over a month old.
The AC guy is coming out to look at.

Could be low on freon, if real low make sure the tech finds the leak and repair if before charging it.
Good Luck
