I have just removed 30 year old hard wired wall lamps (sconces). Now I want to replace them with a new look. The lamp I would like to buy is not a hard wired style in that it has a cord and plug. Is it possible for me (or an electrican) to convert the lamp?

I'm not a pro.... first of all..
I have "hard wired" items such as you have suggested before - is it up to code? - I dunno... probably not. Usually I take apart the fixture to the point that the electrical cord connects to the fixture, remove the electrical cord, and hard wire in from there.....

Since the lamps you want are cord/plug type they must stay that waybecause that is their intended purpose. You or an electrician {preferably} can install receptacles at each outletbox where the sconces were, the receptacle will still be controlled by the same method

Keep looking. I'm sure you can find a fixture you like that is designed to be hard wired.

Illegal-smeagal...can it be done? I have the same problem, my chandelier is a plug and I want to cut it off and hard wire it in at the ceiling - will an electrician do it or not?

A good electrician will not. A shady one might.

Illeagal-smegal huh.......Will you be saying that when your house burns down & you'll be screaming for that "electrician" that hardwired that fixture?? A shady electrician will do anything for cash
