I have a tempstar unit that is not working properly. After the AC runs for several hours the compressor and fan stop working. The inside blower (fan) still runs. The breaker is not tripped. Had a friend check the pressure, check ok. I turn AC unit off/on in an attempt to reset it...nothing. Change temperature setting..nothing. Turn unit completely off for the rest of the day. Next day unit will run only to go through the same scenario.
Any suggestions additional checks I could perform before calling in the pros?

could be a number of things from a bad control board to a low refrigerant charge level It sounds like you have checked about all you can without taking a HVAC repair course, get on the horn to your local HVAC repair specialist and please have all unit info handy when you call, they can throw a few parts on the truck and may be able to save you the cost of a second trip out.
