We are getting ready to put hardwood floors down and it is random length 3/4" thick boards. In trying to see if floor is flat, we have found that it is even level with the exception of one high joist. How should we fix this. I was considering sistering boards to the joist under the floor then trying to plane the high spot down. It appears to be about .25 inch up compared to the others. I would hate to use leveler all around it.

Thanks.

The planer is the way to go. No leveler under a floor that is mechanically fastened down.

By leveler around it, I meant on top of the plywood subflooring all around that joist. I guess I need to be sure to double check that I am clear and I mean that I will be planing the plywood from the walking surface of the floor as well. Is that what you were also thinking when you agreed the planer is the way to go? Are sistering boards to that joist important in this situation or will the small planing not really compromise the strength of the floor?
