Just bought a new house and my smoke alarm chirps. I assumed it was telling me it needed a new battery. I opened it up and found that it's electric. I pushed the test button and it works just fine. Any idea why it would chirp for a while, then be silent for a while, then start chirping again? Thanks!

They have a _back-up_ battery. Depending on the model, there is either a compartment on the back, top, or side. A fresh 9v alkaline should solve the problem.
